Unbelievable but True: A Japanese bling pianist won in th 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition



The Japanese blind pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii won the top prize at the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition held in US. Tsujii was blind since birth and now a college level student. The 20 yrs. old pianist was the first Japanese and the first blind pianist to win the award. Tsujii won the first prize together with the 19 yrs. old Chinese pianist Hauchen Zhang. Tsujii and Zhang was the first asian pianist to win the competition. According to the writer Reuters, Tsujii is still adjusting to its celebrity status. Rueters says that during the Tokyo concert Tsujii told him that he was extremely surprise, more so excited when he heard his name at he award ceremony because he wasn’t even thinking about winning the competition.

Today Tsujii’s CD and DVD is considered one of the best selling albums ever by a Japanese pianist.
